Curated by Evangelia Basdekis
Saturday, November 5th 2016

Agora Argyri
Patras, Greece

On Saturday November 5th, in Patras, as part of Re-Culture 4, Evangelia Basdekis curates a one-day conference on the subject of "Art, Nature and the Anthropocene".

“In our era, in the Anthropocene epoch, we are familiar with talking about climate change and it is widely accepted that we are collectively responsible for it. But such discussions are not necessarily helpful when it comes to understanding the wider causes of the contemporary crisis in the ecology. We tend to ignore the roles of capitalism and colonialism, for instance, and our ideas about nature are often simplistic. Isn’t it time we started examining much more radical political, social and economic interventions?

When no doubt remains that the socio-economic and environmental spheres are interconnecting, what is the role of the artist in today’s global environmental crisis?”

Participants: Agrafiotis Demosthenes, Dickinson Bob, Halatsis Dimitris, Kataga Margarita, Kiais Francesco, Kolaiti Hara, Vrettas Evangelos, Ziogas Yannis.
